Located in the heart of the Italian Dolomites, Alpin Panorama Hotel Hubertus is a haven of tranquility that has been pushing the boundaries for years with its warm hospitality and nature-infused architecture...
One of its most attractive features is undoubtedly the ‘Hub of Huts’, also known as the ‘Heaven and Hell’ relaxation area, which literally turns the horizon upside down with its extraordinary design and stunning views... Like the signature Sky Pool that stretches into infinity, this gravity-defying oasis of well-being is the only one of its kind in the region with its iconic structure floating between ethereal skies and majestic mountains.
We explore the architectural features of this spectacular center that blurs the line between man and nature.
Alpin Panorama Hotel Hubertus is located in the town of Olang, in South Tyrol, with scenic views of the Dolomite mountain range. Once a small guesthouse, the family-run hotel is now a sophisticated destination that combines timeless serenity with adventure and wellness... Embodying the energy of the region beyond its landscape, the hotel is dedicated to reminding us of the healing power of nature in every aspect with its wellbeing facilities, wide range of treatments and outdoor activities such as hiking and mountaineering in the vast Alpenreych Park and Spa.
The structure of the hotel, richened with additions over time, is based on the meeting of “old and new” in the motif of nature and comfort. The exteriors, crowned with large windows, has a curved dynamic that follows the topography of the mountains. The natural energy of the peeled larch trees that surround the building to support the foundation is complemented by the large terrace garden that creates a green harmony with the landscape.
The interiors blend traditional and contemporary style with the use of natural elements such as wood, stone and glass, creating the ambience of an elegant chalet. The Lounge with its carved wooden ceiling ringed by stone fireplaces and the staircase illuminated by tiny glass spheres are some of the finest examples... Larch trees also appear in the guest rooms, reinforcing the calm flow of the property. The color scheme reflects the all-season beauty of the Dolomites, combining the warm palette of wooden floors and exposed beams with the cool earth tones of furniture and textiles.
Unique in South Tyrol, Sky Pool is the brainchild of the award-winning architecture and design studio Noa* (Network of Architecture), which brought the project to life in 2016 through the vision of a rock suspended between earth and sky. With a height of 12 meters and a length of 25 meters, this infinity pool almost touches the horizon, while the windows in the floor give guests the liberating experience of floating above the Alpine meadows. Fed by mountain spring water, the pool is heated to 33°C all year round, promising the pleasure of connection with nature in all seasons.
Heaven & Hell is an architectural marvel that emerged when studio Noa* was tasked with designing a "zen sanctuary" that could eclipse even the Sky Pool. Accepting the challenge, the architects borrowed inspiration from the region's breathtaking landscape to create a wellness concept that plays with skyline and perspectives.
This oasis of tranquility, also known as the Hub of Huts, is suspended 15 meters above the ground, supported by two steel columns clad in barkless larch wood. Located parallel to the Sky Pool, this aerial minimal tower is connected to the hotel by a graceful suspension bridge from the panoramic relaxation room. Although both floors of the space are adorned with "huts" reminiscent of the cultural chalets of the Alps, the lower floor takes the authenticity a step further: Here, the huts rise in reverse, defying the laws of gravity, like Dolomite peaks reflected in the mesmerizing Pragser Wildsee lake.
The ‘Heaven’ floor of the unique space, which reflects the concepts of 'rest' and 'relaxation' as valued aspects of the Spa & Wellbeing universe from diverse perspectives, focuses on instilling guests with a refreshing sense of indulgence. It features showers with panoramic views and two jacuzzis that gently caress the body and soul with their ideal warmth, allowing us to lie down and enjoy the unique shades of blue or sit and watch the dynamic colors of nature. The ‘Hell’ floor, on the other hand, has a more intimate aspect, warming up as if transporting us to the center of the earth. Along with two saunas and an ice room for those who want to cool off, the main attraction of this floor is undoubtedly the secluded pool with a 360° view of the entire surroundings...
Each corner of the area faces a different aspect, and the selection of colors and materials is in perfect harmony with the region. The earthy palette of materials, including brown aluminum panels, light beige ceramics and white oak parquet, is framed by glass walls and wooden planks, while the gray steel structure connecting the bridge and floors creates a symmetrical look with the triangular cliffs of the Dolomites.
Set in the 7,000 m2 Alpenreych Park, the expansive Alpenreych Spa, is designed in a restful design that, like the other spaces, incorporates the natural elements of the Dolomites. Like the Sky Pool, there are six heated pools, including an indoor sensory pool that combines views of the Dolomites with optical art, an outdoor panoramic pool, an outdoor saltwater pool, a relaxation pool and a whirlpool, as well as seven indoor and outdoor saunas with different themes, such as a Dolomite cave steam bath and a panoramic alpine sauna. The relaxation areas, which offer individual or collective rest, have their own unique character, with wood details inside and fire pits and stone structures outside.
In addition to signature treatments by Hubertus and Belvita Leading Wellnesshotels Südtirol, the Spa offers state-of-the-art treatments using Babor and Team Dr. Joseph products, as well as unique Ayurvedic massages such as Mukabhyanga and Upanaha Sveda, therapies suitable for pregnant women and special treatments for the young ones (Children's Dreams).
Nature also plays a leading role in the hotel's cuisine. International cuisine forms the basis for unique culinary creations that combine South Tyrolean tradition with the lightness of Mediterranean cuisine. The gourmet restaurants, including one with ‘Stuben’, turn dining into a sensory culinary experience, with spectacular mountain views that beckon guests out for new adventures every day.
The hotel’s location provides the ideal setting for activities in all seasons for those who want to get in touch with nature. The sheer cliffs of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the unique forested landscape of the Val Pustertal offer both leisurely forest bathing walks and activities such as roped mountain climbing, cycling, skiing and snowmobiling.
Hubertus has its own chipping plant using damaged wood and a photovoltaic energy system, making energy production and pool heating independent and CO2-neutral... The pools use natural spring water from the mountains and are treated with the hotel's own purification plant.
Besides in energy efficiency, the hotel prioritizes nature in its cuisine and activities. Food is freshly sourced directly from local farmers, while nature activities such as skiing and hiking are organized by the hotel's own bus with a guide. The hotel is also very popular for its animal-loving nature... We’re looking at the spa lovers who want to experience the unique tranquility of the area with their pets!
In short, Alpin Panorama Hotel Hubertus is a whole different realm that promises us experiences beyond the ordinary with its Heaven & Hell relaxation area, Alpenreych Spa and healing treatments for balancing ourselves, combining otherworldly and earthly energies in its unique architecture...We think it is worth being included in our list for Spa & Wellbeing journeys.
